The History of Tattooing

Tattoo’s are as ancient as time and as modern as tomorrow.
The history of tattoos and tattooing can be divided into two separate and distinct, yet general periods of time, Ancient tattooing and Modern tattooing. Current historical, anrthropological and archeological evidence indicates that the period of Ancient tattooing started just over five thousand years ago and it ends approximately at the years 1889-1890, just before the electric tattoo machine was invented. The period of Modern tattooing, starts in early 1891-1892 when the electric tattoo machine was first invented and was used commercially, and continues until today.
